Most leave-in conditioners come in a plastic bottle and contain silicone. Silicone is a popular ingredient because it is cheap and makes your hair feel smooth and tangle-free. Unfortunately, you are just coating your hair in slippery plastic.
You naturally loose 50-100 strands of hair in a given day. Those plastic coated strands of hair end up all over the place, adding to plastic pollution. Then when you wash your hair, the silicone gets added to our waterways.
In order to avoid this, look for a silicone-free leave-in conditioner. This can be tricky since silicone can have a dozen different names (see my Moisturizer post for examples).
I found my silicone-free leave-in conditioner at my local refill store, Lufka. It's handmade with pure, safe, and responsibly sourced ingredients. It smells like a spa and works wonderfully on both my daughters' straight tangly strands and my curly hair.
If you live in the Tampa Bay area, head to one of Lufka's amazing locations to switch to a sweet zero waste leave-in conditioner! If you don't live near Tampa, visit my Refill Store Directory to find a local refill store near you!
