When you rub on your nightly moisturizer, you may be rubbing a layer of plastic on your skin. Silicone is a common ingredient with a ton of different names. This includes:
- Anything ending in -cone, -conol, -silane, and -siloxane
- Names like Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, PVP, and Carbomers
Petroleum is also a plastic that shows up with different names such as:
- Petrolatum, Parrafin Wax, PEC, DEA, EDTA
- Anything with butyl or propyl in the name
While these ingredients are meant to lock in moisture, it's more like placing plastic wrap on your skin that is super hard to remove. It may require washing your face several times. Once that works, all that plastic ends up in our waterways. That's scary!
