Most sponges are made from polyurethane, a byproduct of petroleum. As the sponge is used, micro-plastics enter our waterways. To make things worse, these sponges may contain Triclosan, an antibacterial + anti-fungal agent. This chemical is a pesticide harmful to nature and our health.
Luckily, there are healthy plastic-free sponge options out there. I found mine at Lufka, a local refill store in Tampa, FL. I love that this sponge is made from walnuts and has a smooth and rough side. It works great on all my dishes!
If you live in the Tampa Bay area, head to one of Lufka's amazing locations to snag your own walnut sponge. If you don't live near Tampa, visit my Refill Store Directory to find a local refill store near you!
